Our top arts and culture picks

The July Edit

July is sensory overload in the very best way. Gardens burst with colour, fruit is at its sweetest and the air is filled with that sickly scent that only appears on warm summer nights. So step outside, live life to the fullest and soak up the arts and culture picks that are happening right now.

Tasting

On 16th July, Petersham Nurseries are giving you a little taste of the Riviera without leaving London.

A summer wine pairing and canapés evening inspired by a road trip through the Mediterranean coast, what could be better? Expect carefully selected wines and seasonal flavours whilst being surrounded by the gorgeous sight and smells of the nursery itself.

Seeing

This summer, the gardens at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew provide the backdrop for a major exhibition of works by Henry Moore.

Widely regarded as one of Britain's most important sculptors, Moore's monumental bronze forms have been thoughtfully positioned throughout the landscape, creating unexpected moments of discovery as you wander through the grounds. We love exhibitions that encourage you to look more closely at the world around you and this feels like the perfect marriage of art and nature.

Smelling

If you do one thing this month, you need to smell the flowers. Sweetpeas, roses, jasmine. The blooms are at their peak and you must take advantage.

For the full sensory experience, head to Queen Mary's Gardens in Regent's Park. Home to around 12,000 roses, it's one of those places that reminds us how powerful scent can be.

Sound

July marks the official start of festival season and we couldn't be happier about it.

Latitude is a festival that celebrates curiosity in the best way. Alongside the music you'll find thought provoking talks, comedy, theatre and literature, creating the kind of programme that rewards wandering without a plan.

We're equally drawn to Love Supreme Jazz Festival, set against the backdrop of Glyndebourne. Few venues are more beautiful and there's something rather magical about listening to live music surrounded by rolling Sussex countryside.

Touch

Scotland is always a good idea, so for Touch, we’re taking a trip up north.

In Edinburgh, tonic. brings together a collective of contemporary makers exploring the restorative nature of craft. Set within the peaceful surroundings of Dr Neil's Garden, the exhibition invites visitors to slow down, meet the makers and reflect on how handcrafted objects have the ability to ground us.

Or for something a little less cosy, Wild Bathing on Scotland's west coast is the perfect place for cold water immersion, wood fired saunas, sea air and spectacular coastal scenery.
