The September Edit

September always feels like a fresh chapter. The air changes, diaries begin to fill and there is a renewed sense of creative energy that arrives with the new season. It is the month we find ourselves seeking inspiration again, so here are our favourite sensory experiences for the weeks ahead.

SOUND

Listening rooms are on the rise and we're here for it.

Instead of talking over the music, these evenings invite us to do exactly the opposite. Hosted at 180 Studios, the Listening Room transforms into "a sacred space for musical contemplation", encouraging dreamlike deep listening.

The September programme is packed with brilliant sessions. We're particularly torn between Sonny Daze and Giles Smith, both promising the kind of soundtrack that deserves your full attention. In a world of endless background noise, making time to truly listen feels like a luxury.

TASTE

The Hebridean Whiskey Festival is back and should not be missed!
Last year, Laura visited whilst exploring Harris and it became one of those unforgettable trips. Distillery doors opened across the islands, drams were shared generously and the finale ended with an unforgettable cèilidh that perfectly captured the warmth of Hebridean hospitality.

This year the celebrations move to the beautiful Isle of Raasay, where live music, island food and plenty of whisky will bring people together once again.

SMELL

September is the month where the air starts to smell different. After months of warm, dry weather, the first autumn showers awaken one of nature's most distinctive fragrances: petrichor. It is the earthy smell released when rain falls onto dry ground and there's nothing quite like it.

This is one of our favourite sensory rituals of the season. Open the windows after the rain. Take a walk through your local park. Notice how familiar places smell completely different overnight. Sometimes inspiration begins with something as simple as breathing in.

SIGHT

It's design month!
Our creative calendar is overflowing this September. London Design Festival transforms neighbourhoods into open air galleries, Shoreditch Design Week celebrates the studios shaping the future of design and the British Fashion Council's September showcases remind us why London remains one of the world's most exciting creative capitals.

We're especially excited for Top Drawer, where our founder Laura Sawyer will be speaking on 15 September about creating meaningful brand experiences that people remember long after they've left the room. If you're heading there, we'd love to see you.

Did you know that opening sparkling bottles with a sword is a sport?

The Sabrage Olympics at Westwell Wines offers friendly competition and lots of silliness at their vineyard. Competitors will battle it out as they perfect the opening of sparkling wine with a sabre sword!

Laura tried it a few years ago and can confirm it's every bit as exhilarating as it looks. With DJs, wood fired pizza and lots of fizz, it's an event you won't want to miss.
